Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-Cake, Baker's Man!

This favorite was beyond a doubt, the key component to my week of teaching English at SOS Village. Every class learned it, every class began and ended with it ....

Sometimes I'd have students move to a special seating area so they could say it in pairs .... but most often, while seated at their desks, all I'd have to do is pat my legs and the chorus began!

"Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake, Baker's Man .... Bake me a cake, as fast as you can. Pat it and roll it and mark it with a "B." Put it in the oven for Baby and me!"

The pace and tempo would build and build, going faster and fast, with more and greater gusto until the final verse, the students would shout out "ME" as they threw their hands in the air!
